2 Reasons To Consider Same-Day Crowns

by Andre Daniels

Whenever you need a dental crown, it is very important that you take the time to consider a same-day crown option, mostly because of the fact that a same-day crown is much more convenient than getting a traditional crown. Same-day crowns are typically offered by dentists who have decided to purchase some of the fabrication equipment necessary to create the crowns in-house rather than having to put in an order with a dental lab in order to get a crown for their patients. Listed below are two reasons to consider same-day crowns.

Less Overall Discomfort

A big reason to consider same-day crowns is the fact that it can result in less overall discomfort than a traditional crown. Now, while both a traditional and same-day crown are not going to be uncomfortable once you actually have them applied, there is going to be some discomfort with a traditional crown while you are waiting for your permanent crown to be ready. The cause of this discomfort is typically going to be a temporary crown you must wear for several days or weeks while waiting for your traditional crown.

A temporary crown will often result in discomfort because it will usually not fit very well. This results in the temporary crown shifting around quite a bit throughout the day, which can cause damage to your gums as a result of the temporary crown rubbing along the gum as it moves. Of course, the temporary crown is not meant to be worn long-term,  but you can avoid the several days or weeks of discomfort entirely by going with the same-day crown that does not require you to wear a temporary crown for any length of time.

Less Time Spent In The Dentist's Office

Another very important thing to consider when trying to decide between a traditional and same-day crown is the amount of time that you are going to be able to spend in the dentist's office. With a traditional crown, you will typically have to go in and get all of the work done on your tooth in order to prepare for the crown and get a mold taken of your damaged tooth.

After that, you will then have to go back in a few weeks in order to have the permanent crown attached. The problem with this is that if you have a busy work schedule or simply have a lot of demands on your time, it can be exceedingly difficult to get the time that you need to visit the dentist multiple times in the middle of the day.

Thankfully, a same-day crown actually cuts down on the amount of time you spend in the dentist office by at least half. The reason for this is that your dentist will prepare your tooth and then prepare the permanent crown while you are waiting so that he or she can apply the permanent crown before you leave your initial and only appointment.

Make an appointment with your local dentist today in order to discuss the possibility of getting a same-day crown and the various benefits that a same-day crown may be able to provide. You should consider same-day crowns due to the fact that they can result in less overall discomfort and less time spent in the dentist's office.
